Hugo de Sadeleer started his racing career in the Formula BMW Talent Cup in 2012. The series propelled drivers such as Sebastien Vettel, Nico Rosberg and Bruno Senna to the highest echelons of motorsports. The series provided the perfect platform for Hugo to move from karting into long term professional motorsports career.
In 2014, Hugo signed his first contract age 16 with Tech 1 Racing Team for the Alps Formula Renault 2.0 Championship. The French team had a track record of developing drivers such as Daniel Ricciardo and Jules Bianchi. In 2016, Hugo participated in his first international racing series, the highly competitive Europcup Formula Renault 2.0 Championship.
Hugo attended the prestigious international boarding school Institute Le Rosey and pursued a racing career at the same time. He therefore had to lead a parallel life of studies and racing in the Formula Renault Alps Championship. Because of a great relationship with his engineers and his understanding of race analytics Hugo managed to progress extremely quickly in his racing and also passed his International Baccalaureate exams. A highlight of 2014 was when Hugo finished 2nd at the Pau street circuit in the second race of the season. Hugo spent the 2015 season with Tech 1, and continued developing his driving style. His big break came in 2016 when Hugo finished 6th of the Eurocup Formula Renault 2.0 Championship. Hugo achieved one victory and two additional podiums in the season. Following a very successful 2016 in open-wheel racing, Hugo made a switch to sports cars for 2017.
In January 2017, United Autosports team owner Zak Brown announced that he had signed Hugo to drive in LMP2 car for the European Le Mans Series and the 24 Hours of Le Mans. The newly built LMP2 car is an Onroak Ligier JSP217 weighing 900kg and powered by a Gibson 600hp V8 engine.
